NCLEX Passer To DHA RN In 2026: Does NCLEX Exempt You From The DHA Exam?

Short answer: the current UAE Unified PQR lists proof of successfully completing NCLEX as a recognized equivalency assessment for nurses and midwives. Under that section, applicants with a valid recognized exam pass record may be exempt from the UAE licensure examination. But NCLEX does not automatically give you a DHA registration or license, and an NCLEX pass is not the same document as an active USRN license. The evidence must still be valid when you apply; if it states no validity, the PQR generally accepts it only within five years from issuance. The applied title must fit, gap-of-practice limits still apply, and DHA may add equivalency requirements for an individual case.

The practical rule is: claim the assessment exemption only through your own Sheryan application and upload the evidence DHA requests. Do not pay for a separate DHA CBT until Sheryan shows that an assessment is required for your file. An old NCLEX result should never be treated as a permanent exemption.

The Important Difference: NCLEX Passer vs USRN

You passed NCLEXYour key evidence is the official pass record accepted by DHA. Passing does not by itself prove that a US state board has issued an active license.
You hold an active USRN licenseYou may have both the NCLEX route and separate license evidence. The PQR also describes an exemption route involving a valid license and Good Standing Certificate from listed countries, subject to its timing and gap-of-practice conditions.
You only have an unofficial screenshotDo not assume it will be enough. Prepare the formal verification or result document Sheryan requests for your case.

Four Boundaries To Check Before Claiming Exemption

Result validityThe equivalency evidence must be valid on the licensure-application date. If the document gives no validity period, the PQR says it is accepted within five years from issuance.
Gap of practiceDo not assume exemption after a long clinical gap. The general PQR gap section starts remediation when the gap exceeds three years; the exam-equivalency clause is stricter and says its exemption criteria do not apply when the gap exceeds two years, subject to stated UAE-national exceptions.
Matching titleExam equivalency does not override the requirements for the professional title you request. Your nursing education, registration and evidence must support the applied Registered Nurse title.
Authority discretionThe PQR permits each Authority to apply additional equivalency requirements. Sheryan's decision for your file is controlling.

What The Exemption Can Remove, And What It Does Not Remove

Potentially removed

The DHA licensure examination, only if Sheryan accepts timely, title-matched NCLEX evidence under the PQR exemption criteria.

Still required

Self-assessment/application, qualification review, identity and professional documents, and Primary Source Verification where required.

Not guaranteed

A particular professional title. DHA still evaluates whether your education, registration, experience, and practice history fit the title requested.

Not yet a work license

DHA states that an active registration is eligibility to seek work; a hiring facility must activate it into a license before you practise.

A DIY Checklist For Filipino Nurses

  1. Run the free Sheryan self-assessment. Choose Registered Nurse only if your education and registration support that title.
  2. Prepare two evidence folders. One for Philippine records such as passport, nursing education, PRC registration and Good Standing; another for NCLEX or USRN evidence.
  3. Keep names identical. Compare passport, PRC, school, NCLEX and US board records. Document a legal name change instead of silently editing spellings.
  4. Follow the assessment shown in Sheryan. If the application recognizes an exemption, do not book CBT just because a review center says every nurse needs it.
  5. Complete PSV tasks requested for your case. Exam exemption is not credential-verification exemption.
  6. Save the decision trail. Keep application numbers, payment receipts, uploaded files and written support replies.

Three Mistakes That Cost Time

  • Calling yourself USRN when you have passed NCLEX but the state license is not yet issued.
  • Paying for DHA CBT before checking whether Sheryan applies the recognized-exam exemption.
  • Assuming exam exemption means DataFlow, registration and employer activation disappear too.

FAQ

Does passing NCLEX automatically give me a DHA license?

No. The PQR may support exemption from the licensure examination, but DHA still reviews your application and credentials. A hiring facility must activate an approved registration into a professional license.

Should an NCLEX passer still study DHA questions?

First check whether Sheryan requires the CBT. If you are exempt, spending weeks on a DHA question bank may not be the best use of time. Focus on documents, PSV and the Dubai registration path instead.

Is an NCLEX pass the same as a valid US nursing license?

No. NCLEX is an examination. A nursing license is issued by a board after its licensing requirements are met. Prepare the exact evidence that matches your status.

Can I use an NCLEX result issued more than five years ago?

Do not assume so. The PQR says equivalency examinations must be valid at application and, when the document states no validity, are generally accepted within five years from issuance. Ask DHA to assess your exact record before relying on it.

What if I have a gap of practice longer than three years?

You cannot safely rely on exam exemption alone. The general gap rules require remediation after more than three years, while the current exam-equivalency clause is even stricter and excludes applicants with more than two years of gap from its exemption criteria, subject to stated exceptions. Use Sheryan for an individual decision.

Does NCLEX exemption apply to any nursing title?

No. Exam equivalency does not replace the qualification, registration and experience requirements for the professional title requested. Your evidence must support the Registered Nurse title, and DHA decides the title and assessment route for your file.

Can DHA request more evidence even when NCLEX is listed?

Yes. The PQR says each Authority may apply additional equivalency requirements, and the applicant must still satisfy the requirements of the title requested.
